Week 9 (#23 Conclusion)

Though it is time consuming and I had spent numerous of hours of my own time, to me Learning 2.0 is the most wonderful thing that happens. This is one of fastest ways to expand our online services and provide the needed information to the community. It is 24/7 if the resources such as feeds, bookmarks, pictures, podcast, etc... are shared through the Web. Today teens are spending their time mostly online working on their myspace, blog, flickr, rodeo, games. As a librarian I do need to learn more modern technology and online tools to keep up with them. Yeah, I am Learning 2.0 graduate. I am so excited about this whole ordeal. I spent so much time on this but also learning so much incredible information. Many many different things such as flickr, delicious, image creator, fd’s toys, and so many other things that I have heard and seen people do but never got a chance to get the hands-on experience, but this learning 2.0 session has given me this opportunity. I am really seeing myself using all of these experiences for work in future.

Week 9 (#22)

Ebooks and Audio books are wonderful resource and have enriched our collection. When we can not find any thing on the shelve adapting the customers' need and the library is about to close, it is time for them to read their ebooks at home. Audio books are cool to listen when the customers travel or get stuck in traffic.

Week 9 (#21)

I took a look at Yahoo Podcast directory and found it very interesting. As a Young Adults librarian working with teenage customers in the library, I found Series Information: Focusing on Solutions a Positive Discipline Podcast very helpful. It is program that teaches important social and life skills, in a manner that is respectful to both the adults and the young people. Visit http://www.positivediscipline.com/ for more information. Week 9 (#20)

I think Youtube is a wonderful tool for us to share movie scripts with each other by emailing and posting them on our blog or website. The movie script above was recorded at my workplace in the Community Room. I can use youtube to record and post library programs and facility to enhance my outreach effort.

Week 8 (#19)

I took a look around LibraryThing and created an account of chieuattu for myself there. I added couples of books, here is my LibraryThing account at http://www.librarything.com/profile/chieuattu

I think this LibraryThing would be useful tool for a book club program. I added three brand new books and only 10-25 other members had added in their account. Two bestseller books were added by about 2 hundreds or more participants. A classic book “Of Mice and Men” by John Steinbeck was added by other 3300 other members. I found some great discussion of my favorite Sci-Fi at http://www.librarything.com/groups/sciencefictionfans

Week 8 (#18) First document using Zoho

I went to the Zoho Writer and created a free account of chieuattu for myself in Zoho Writer. I think this Word Processing resource is wonderful. This might benefit us from spending money to update our Word software.

I tried the Publish function and creted the "First document using Zoho" to be a sharing source. The software gave me an html link to post on my blog. The viewers can also give comment about this post. This is cool!!!I also tried Zoho wiki, which was an awesome function, my wiki is http://chieuattu.wiki.zoho.com/

Week 7 (#17)

I created my pbwiki account at http://pbwiki.com. It was a wonderful tool to learn how to add and edit a pbwiki page at http://pbwiki.com/videos/.

I saw our San Jose Public Library Learning 2.0 http://sjlibrarylearning2.pbwiki.com/ and

I added couple of entries including my blog, my favorite restaurant, and other.

Week 7 (#16)

I think wiki is great. We can share each other documents online and the information can be updated by anyone in the group. Currently, our Youth Services department has a wiki webpage that we are sharing storytimes and other activities for youths. I am thinking to use my wiki’s account (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Learning2.0) that I created from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page to share information with the volunteers.

I am almost at the end of the learning 2.0 session online. I am so excited about this whole ordeal. I spent so much time on this but also learning so much incredible information. Week 6(#14)

The search in “Blog post” lists the posts that are posted within the 24 hours on the first page.

The search in “tags” registers the podcasts and other media online resource.

The search in “Blog directory” files the most recent blog and descending to longer posted blogs. Blogs also lists the creators of the blogs. There is a list on the left hand catalog blogs by their subject area.

The popular searchers make sense. Youtube, Myspace, Paris Hilton, etc..are in the popular searches.

Popular bogs category lists different guides such us Gizmodo, The Gadget Guide (my favorite). Within this guide, there is more than 15K of blogs and Gizmodo is not even the most popular. The top is Engadget which has more than 25K of blogs.

Tagging is fun and can highlight our groups of items. We can easily spot what we are looking for. However, it could be taking up some time to organize the tags.

Week 6 (#13)

I am so glad to have a chance learning about del.iou.us.

The del.icio.us account of sjlearning2.0 has great comments and inputs. I like various categories and so many options on the left.

I can see myself using my del.icio.us account at http://delicious.com/learning_2.0 very often. It is a great tool and everyone can use my bookmarks online anytime. I am teaching a computer class and I think this is a wonderful tool for my students to access to the websites that I am bookmarking for them.

Searchbox

Add a searchroll to the blog using the "Create a Searchbox" tool at http://www.rollyo.com/searchbox.html is a great exercise. I could see the potential using it more often on my blog.

Week 4 (#9) few useful library related blogs and/or news feeds

The easier method to find feeds is looking for the orange icons RSS and XML

The Search tool that was the easiest for me is Syndic8.com.

The more confusing was Feedster.

I really like the Technorati feed searching tool and its tutorial to claim a blog.

RSS

RSS is a new tool similar but more advanced than bookmarking.

I think I might be able to use this technology in your work or personal life. I can bookmark my links and get updated on new information.

The library can take advantage of this new technology. We can share the new information to the public. The current events are definitely good things to share.

7 1/2 Habit of Highly Successful Lifelong Learners

This presentation is extremely wonderful. There are so many excuses in our lives that we can come up with to justify why we are not doing Learning 2.0. From watching this presentation, I do realize that I have been making excuses and procrastinating this project. Yes, I have so much works so can't do it during work time. Yes, I am very tired after work chasing the disruptive kids out from the library everyday. Many, many, and many other excuses. But today, I promise myself to finish this Learning 2.0.

I like Habbit 3: View Problems as challenges the most. I'll try to Use technology as my advantage.
